Phase one of the campaign recorded over 11,260* blood donors with more than 12,800 meal boxes delivered;
Second phase will kick off on 7 December with seven NGOs to broaden community support

 (7 December 2020 – Hong Kong) The local blood inventory and livelihood of the underprivileged in Hong Kong have been significantly impacted by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. In line with its unwavering support of its communities, Prudential Hong Kong (“Prudential”) has launched the second phase of its ‘Blood Donation Community Meal Pledge’ campaign, taking place from 7 December 2020 to 6 January 2021. For every successful blood donation during the campaign period, Prudential will donate one meal to the food assistance programmes of participating social enterprises and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to help the needy and tide them through the difficult time.

Phase two of ‘Blood Donation Community Meal Pledge’ is supported by seven organisations – Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service Centres (BTS); Food Angel; The Lok Sin Tong Benevolent Society Kowloon; Oxfam Hong Kong; Po Leung Kuk, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals and The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups Jockey Club Cheung Wah Youth S.P.O.T.

Expanding the scope in the second phase to meet overwhelming responses
Prudential launched the first phase of the “Blood Donation Community Meal Pledge” in October this year to support BTS’ blood donation appeal as well as serve the needy during the pandemic. The campaign saw an overwhelming response with over 11,260 donors and more than 12,800 meal boxes distributed through participating social enterprises and NGOs.

Second phase kicking off on 7 December to keep the momentum until next year
Phase two of ‘Blood Donation Community Meal Pledge’ has a broader scope than the previous phase, with participating organisations serving different communities and covering various regions in Hong Kong. The campaign not only encourages blood donation, but also provides food for the needy. One blood donation can save three lives, but through this campaign, donors will also be helping four people with the meal pledge, delivering warmth to both patients and the underprivileged during this challenging time.

Mr. Derek Yung, Chief Executive Officer of Prudential said, “Prudential is committed to being a good corporate citizen and providing its steadfast support to its communities. We initiated the ‘Blood Donation Community Meal Pledge’ in October to offer relief amid the pandemic. Thanks to the support by the public and our colleagues, the campaign received an overwhelming response and created positive vibes for the communities. With the recent outbreak, we decided to launch the second phase of the campaign immediately with more participating NGOs to broaden its reach and impact. We would like to call for the public’s support for this meaningful cause.”

The highest number of donors in the private sector for six consecutive years
As a long-standing supporter of BTS’ blood donation appeal, Prudential holds regular blood drives which are participated by over 2,000 staff and financial consultants each year. Prudential is the first private-sector entity to receive the “Special Merit Award”, recording the highest number of donors in the private sector for six consecutive years. The company has also received the Gold Award of “Give Blood Alliance” presented by the Hong Kong Red Cross for multiple times.
