Surging cross-border travel in the GBA fuels demand for short-haul travel protection
Supported by the continuous enhancement of the cross-border transport infrastructure, travel between cities across the GBA has become increasingly frequent. Heading across the border for leisure, visiting friends and relatives, weekend getaways, and major entertainment events have become popular pastimes for many residents. According to the latest data from the Census and Statistics Department1, the number of Hong Kong resident departures to Shenzhen via the Lo Wu, Lok Ma Chau Spur Line, Lok Ma Chau, Man Kam To, Shenzhen Bay and Heung Yuen Wai Boundary Control Points exceeded 45.7 million in the first half of 2026, representing a year-on-year increase of 10.5%. The figures underscore the continued growth in demand for cross-border travel.
Meanwhile, the Government continues to promote cross-border infrastructure development and border clearance facilitation measures. The new Huanggang Port is expected to commence operations in the fourth quarter of this year and will adopt a new clearance model to further enhance cross-boundary travel efficiency. As the GBA's "one-hour living circle" continues to take shape, demand for flexible travel protection solutions tailored to short-haul travel is expected to grow further.
