Prudential Receives Elite Partnership Award
the highest recognition given by the Hong Kong Red Cross
(15 June 2021 – Hong Kong) Prudential Hong Kong Limited (“Prudential”) is honoured with the Elite Partnership Award, the highest recognition given by the Hong Kong Red Cross to its corporate partners. Prudential is the only financial institution in Hong Kong being awarded.
The award recognises the long-term support and major contributions of partners to the Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service (BTS). In addition to hosting regular blood drives, their initiatives to raise public awareness and participation in blood donation during the pandemic helped ensure a stable blood supply to meet patients’ needs.
The blood inventory and livelihood of the underprivileged in Hong Kong were significantly impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. To support BTS’ appeal for blood donation as well as serving the needy, Prudential launched the ‘Blood Donation Community Meal Pledge’ - a two-phase campaign held between October and December 2020. In this one-of-a-kind campaign, Prudential matched and donated a meal box for every blood donation made over the two months. The campaign received overwhelming support from the community, enabling Prudential to match and donate over 35,000 hot meals, which were distributed via participating non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to the less fortunate.
“The Prudential Blood Drive has been our flagship Corporate Social Responsibility programme for many years”, said Derek Yung, Chief Executive Officer of Prudential. “Amid the pandemic, Prudential immediately launched the ‘Blood Donation Community Meal Pledge’ to bring hope for those in need. The campaign not only encouraged blood donation, but also provided food for the needy. One blood donation can save three lives, but through this campaign, donors were able to help four people with the meal pledge. We will continue to support those in need with our unwavering commitment to safeguard the health of our community.”
Prudential achieved the highest number of donors in the private sector for six consecutive years
As a long-standing supporter of BTS’ blood donation appeal, Prudential holds regular blood drives which are participated by over 2,000 staff and financial consultants each year. The COVID-19 outbreak made no exception. Prudential was also the first private-sector entity to receive the “Special Merit Award”, recording the highest number of donors in the private sector for six consecutive years. The company has also received the Gold Award of “Give Blood Alliance” presented by the Hong Kong Red Cross for multiple times.
