Prudential launches market-first “Satellite Medical Examination” and “Health Test Express” one-stop medical examination solutions

• End-to-end policy application and medical examination experience expedites entire onboarding and underwriting process
• “One Signature” and an array of digital tools shorten the onboarding time of the insurance application process potentially to as little as 25 minutes

(24 April 2023, Hong Kong) Prudential Hong Kong Limited (‘Prudential’) today announced the launch of its market-first “Satellite Medical Examination” and “Health Test Express” services, two brand new one-stop medical examination solutions designed to shorten the time for medical underwriting. The two new solutions, combined with the pioneering “One Signature” digital service, offer customers a revolutionary onboarding and underwriting experience with unprecedented convenience and efficiency.

Tie-up with Hong Kong Health Check on “Satellite Medical Examination”

Partnered with healthcare operator Hong Kong Health Check & Medical Diagnostic Group Limited (‘HKHC’), Prudential’s market-first “Satellite Medical Examination” enables customers to reserve on-demand health assessment sessions more conveniently.

Customers no longer need to make long or multiple commutes for medical examinations. Instead, they can visit any one of the designated satellite medical centres for an end-to-end medical examination experience, where registered nurses will provide highly-personalised health examination services. All necessary examination items required for underwriting such as blood testing, ultrasound scan, electrocardiography and other imaging examinations could be performed at the same location after the doctor review via video consultation.

Prudential’s “Satellite Medical Examination” was launched to eligible customers1 in Hong Kong in late March this year. The service is currently available at the Jordan Flagship Centre of HKHC and will be expanded to the Causeway Bay and Shatin branches of HKHC by late July. All financial consultants and insurance brokers of Prudential will be able to arrange the “Satellite Medical Examination” service to eligible customers1 of Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland from late July onwards.

“The medical examinations process can pose challenges to time-strapped people of Hong Kong at times, which can lead to delays in the underwriting process,” said Dr. Justin Cheng, Medical Director, Medical Department of Prudential Hong Kong Limited. “The brand-new ‘Satellite Medical Examination’ and ‘Health Test Express’ are designed to precisely address customers’ pain points and provide them with a convenient and bespoke medical examination experience, so that they can receive more timely and comprehensive health protection.”

Unprecedented “Health Test Express” offers innovative and painless blood sampling experience

In addition, Prudential partners with Prenetics to launch the market-first, self-served “Health Test Express” service for all eligible customers. With this new solution, customers can now easily collect their blood sample on the spot through an innovative blood collection test with patented technology, as accompanied by financial consultants. The entire process is painless, simple and safe. The blood specimen will be delivered to the laboratory on the same day, and results of the test will be available for the underwriting process within 24 hours.

Selected Prudential customers with special health conditions, such as fatty liver, hyperlipidemia and hepatitis B etc, can now make use of the “Health Test Express” service. The scope of service will be expanded in early July to cover more health conditions, such as elevated liver enzymes, pancreatitis, benign prostatic hypertrophy and prostatitis. At a later stage, the scope will be further extended to customers with multiple impairments and those who are exceeding non-medical limits.

Sam Lim, Chief Technology & Digital Officer of Prudential Hong Kong Limited said, “Anchored by Prudential’s customer-centricity philosophy, we strive for operational excellence to deliver greater value for our customers. The newly launched solutions harness the innovative end-to-end service approach to engage our customers, bringing them a seamless, highly efficient onboarding experience and timely health protection. This marks an important milestone for Prudential in pioneering the development of InsurTech and reflects our steadfast commitment to continuously enhance the customer experience through innovative technology.”

“One Signature” digital service speeds up insurance application

After financial consultants have explained each of the relevant documents, the “One Signature” digital feature allows customers to review all their application materials on their own devices anytime and provide only one digital signature for their entire insurance application. This solution has gone through the Hong Kong Insurance Authority’s Insurtech Sandbox application process and was launched in particular distribution channel in last November. Coupled with other new features, including data-prefilling with information provided by customers, Financial Needs Analysis (FNA) optimisation and remote payment, this new onboarding experience is more flexible than the traditional approach, which could potentially reduce the onboarding time of insurance application process to as little as 25 minutes.

1 Eligible for customers within non-medical limit but not applicable to cardiology, ophthalmology, and respiratory specialties.
