Prudential strengthens collaboration with Foshan Fosun Chancheng Hospital and Hong Kong Integrated Oncology Centre to launch cross-border Medical Expenses Direct Billing Service for cancer treatment in the Greater Bay Area

"Cancer Patients Shared Care" model enhances cross-border cancer treatment experience, optimising patient-centred healthcare ecosystem

(24 July 2025, Hong Kong) Prudential Hong Kong Limited (“Prudential”) today announced a strategic partnership with Foshan Fosun Chancheng Hospital and the Hong Kong Integrated Oncology Centre (“HKIOC”) to further expand cross-border Medical Expenses Direct Billing Services for cancer treatment across the Greater Bay Area. This collaboration aims to provide more seamless and convenient cross-border healthcare services through the "Cancer Patients Shared Care" model*, addressing the growing demand for high-quality medical services in the region.

Building on its earlier strategic direct partnership with Foshan Fosun Chancheng Hospital announced in May, Prudential has further joined forces with HKIOC to launch cross-border Medical Expenses Direct Billing Services for cancer treatment. By bringing together the strengths of three leading providers, the collaboration creates synergies to deliver innovative and comprehensive health solutions, demonstrating Prudential’s commitment to supporting customers along their healthcare journey when they need it the most.

Statistics show that in Hong Kong, one person is diagnosed with cancer every 15 minutes1. On the Chinese mainland, the figure is even more concerning, with nine people diagnosed every minute. In 2020 alone, the number of newly diagnosed male lung cancer patients reached approximately 540,000, and breast cancer cases rose by around 420,0002. These figures underline the growing threat cancer poses to the health of residents in both regions. Furthermore, Prudential’s 2024 Individual Life Claims Report shows that cancer is the leading cause of both critical illness and death claims, highlighting its significant impact on individuals’ health and financial well-being.

“Cancer Patients Shared Care” model optimises cross-border cancer treatment experience

Foshan Fosun Chancheng Hospital and HKIOC will offer Prudential’s eligible customers with multidisciplinary consultations and personalised treatment plans through the "Cancer Patients Shared Care" model. This enables customers to receive multidisciplinary treatment consultation support from both oncology centres during their cancer treatment, with a dedicated case management team providing full support throughout the process.

Under the "Cancer Patients Shared Care" model, eligible Prudential customers gain access to the professional expertise and medical services of both Foshan Fosun Chancheng Hospital and HKIOC through a streamlined referral mechanism. Patients receiving treatment at Foshan Fosun Chancheng Hospital may be referred to HKIOC in Hong Kong for further care, and vice versa. This process is designed to provide a seamless, one-stop oncology support service, enabling patients to focus fully on their recovery. The partnership also offers prioritised medical specialist appointments and exclusive medical concierge services, further enhancing the cross-border healthcare experience for customers.

Prudential’s eligible customers can access Medical Expenses Direct Billing Service

Through this three-way partnership, eligible Prudential customers can consult Foshan Fosun Chancheng Hospital or HKIOC in advance to obtain medical expense estimates for cancer treatment. Based on customers’ needs, the medical institutions will assist in submitting pre-approval requests for medical expenses to Prudential. Once approved, Prudential will directly settle the approved medical expenses with the medical institutions upon completion of treatment, eliminating the need for customers to pay upfront and helping to ease potential cash flow issues.

Lawrence Lam, Chief Executive Officer at Prudential Hong Kong Limited, said: “Prudential is proud to collaborate with Foshan Fosun Chancheng Hospital and the Hong Kong Integrated Oncology Centre to launch the Medical Expenses Direct Billing Service for cross-border cancer treatment. By leveraging the ‘Cancer Patients Shared Care’ model and the combined strengths of all three parties, this partnership enables customers to access high-quality and seamless medical services across both Hong Kong and Chinese mainland. This strategic alliance marks a significant milestone in Prudential’s on-going efforts to enhance its patient-centred healthcare ecosystem. As a leader in cross-border medical network services, Prudential remains dedicated to its customer-first philosophy and will continue to deliver comprehensive and innovative protection solutions, fostering healthcare integration in the Greater Bay Area.”

Hu Hang, CEO of Shanghai Fosun Health Technology and Director of Foshan Fosun Chancheng Hospital, stated: “The key breakthrough in this tripartite collaboration lies in truly bridging the ‘last mile’ for Hong Kong patients seeking medical care in the Chinese mainland. Leveraging Prudential’s rigorous standards in selecting partner medical providers, Foshan Fosun Chancheng Hospital serves as the central hub for cross-border cancer treatment in the Greater Bay Area, working seamlessly with the Hong Kong Integrated Oncology Centre to achieve ‘unified in clinical excellence and patient-centered compassion’. Through an innovative ‘Cancer Patients Shared Care’ model, we integrate Hong Kong’s precision medicine strengths with high-quality the Chinese Mainland resources to offer Hong Kong patients a one-stop support — from appointment and referral to medical expenses direct billing. This not only redefines the cross-border healthcare experience but also sets a new benchmark for medical integration in the Greater Bay Area through a full-cycle health management ecosystem driven by three-party synergy.”

Tong Ka Kei, CEO of the Hong Kong Integrated Oncology Centre, said: “Building on the collaborative achievements from the end of 2023, Prudential is now extending its services to Foshan, further strengthening cross-border healthcare connectivity in oncology. Through the 'Cancer Patients Shared Care' model, we aim to allow patients, and their families focus on treatment and recovery. At the same time, we hope this collaboration will foster medical communication between Hong Kong and Foshan and serve as a model for advancing healthcare integration in the Greater Bay Area, benefiting more cancer patients. Our oncology centre is equipped with a professional case management team that provides one-stop support, including appointment scheduling, follow-ups, and approval processes. Moving forward, we will continue working closely with partners from various sectors to further energise cross-border healthcare collaboration.”
