English Adventure - A Collaborative Effort of Prudential and British Council To Bring Creative English Learning to Hong Kong Students

25/01/2005

English Adventure, a joint educational programme of The Prudential Assurance Company Limited ("Prudential") and the British Council Hong Kong, was launched today aiming to bring creative English learning to Hong Kong students. The project involves the modification of a double-decker bus into an innovative mobile classroom, providing complimentary language-learning services to secondary schools in Hong Kong.

English Adventure is a collaboration in which Prudential contributes funding for hardware and operations, while the British Council lends its expertise in English teaching. It is intended for Form 1 and 2 secondary school students and teachers for language-related activities during and after school hours.

"In actively listening to the community's aspirations, we understand that one of the best ways to develop Hong Kong's greatest asset – its people, especially our next generation – is to help raise interest in learning English. This is also important to maintain and uphold Hong Kong's position as a key international metropolis," said Mr. Ken Ng, Marketing Director of Prudential. "As a committed corporate citizen always contributing our best efforts to Hong Kong's vibrancy, Prudential has invested in English Adventure to address our community needs for today and tomorrow."

The programme focuses on building skills for more effective English communication in a fun environment that enhances students' confidence in using the English language. 21 computers, with interactive learning programmes and educational tools, are installed on the bus for students to practise and experience hands-on English through learning interactive and creative activities.

Mr. Andrew Millburn, Deputy Director of British Council Hong Kong, said, "it is a core objective of the British Council to support the learning and teaching of English wherever we work. This programme will help not only to raise awareness of the importance of English, but also present it in a fun, attractive way that will stimulate interest in learning the language amongst young people all over the territory."

English Adventure is particularly grateful to Lam Tai Fai College for their ongoing support and to ELCHK Lutheran Secondary School for the use of their facilities and premises for the launch ceremony today.
