Prudential partners with MyDoc to launch telemedicine services in Hong Kong via Pulse app

Integrating one-stop telemedicine services into Pulse by Prudential mobile app, including video consultations with a doctor, electronic prescriptions and electronic medical certifications, and medication delivery time within four hours

(24 March 2021 – Hong Kong) Prudential Hong Kong Limited (“Prudential”) is making healthcare services more accessible to Hong Kong citizens with the launch of telemedicine services through its Pulse by Prudential health and wellness app (“Pulse”). Partnering with internationally recognised digital healthcare provider MyDoc, users of Pulse can schedule video consultations with a locally licensed doctor, obtain electronic prescriptions and electronic medical certifications, as well as receive delivery of prescribed medicine within four hours[1] at the comfort of their homes.

The new service on Pulse comes at a time of intense pressure on Hong Kong’s public health services, as well as a growing appetite among the public for digital health solutions as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Prudential Hong Kong Smart Health COVID-19 Study 2020[2] also revealed a growing interest to explore telemedicine services, citing appointment booking, virtual queuing and payment (75%), prescribed medicine delivery (69%), follow-up consultation (54%), and online/remote Western Medicine consultation (51%) as the most desired services among Hong Kong citizens.

“There is no better time for Prudential to team up with MyDoc and launch telemedicine services in Hong Kong. It allows Prudential to play an even more active role in protecting people’s health while they stay safe at home during the pandemic,” said Benny Tsoi, Chief Operations Officer at Prudential, ”With access to healthcare professionals in just a few clicks, the new telemedicine services offer timely support in helping people prevent, postpone and protect against the onset of diseases. It further underscores our ongoing commitment to making healthcare more affordable and accessible to all.”

Experienced Hong Kong-licensed doctors offer affordable online medical consultation services

MyDoc’s panel of Hong Kong-licensed doctors and pharmacy partners are selected with stringent processes and standards. MyDoc’s current doctors have 12 years clinical experience and are specifically certified for online consultations. In addition to common symptoms such as colds, flus, sinusitis and respiratory tract infections, they have also been trained to assess if an individual is suspected to have COVID-19 in a virtual setting.

The doctor consultation fee is HK$200 and medication delivery fee varies from HK$50 to HK$80 (including up to three days of standard medicine which a general medical practitioner may prescribe and a one-time delivery service). Delivery of medication will be made within four hours of the consultation.

Jonathan Linstow, General Manager for MyDoc Hong Kong, said “It is now more crucial than ever that we provide the Hong Kong public with reliable and timely information to ease any concerns as we continue to reduce the risk of spreading the virus. There is a lot of anxiety and questions revolving around the vaccine. By working with Prudential, we are able to tap into the wider healthcare network, providing the right medical access to the public and supporting the people for the long term.”

In August 2019, Prudential announced its regional partnership with MyDoc to offer consumers value-added health services via their mobile phones. Today, MyDoc’s telemedicine services are available in Singapore, Vietnam and now Hong Kong via Pulse.

Introduced in Hong Kong in March 2020, Pulse is a digital health buddy on-the-go which offers health tips and real-time information for its users. The app has been receiving a positive reception in Hong Kong since its launch, recording over 200,000 downloads within the first 24 hours of release and now has over 650,000 downloads to date.
