(Hong Kong, 21 December 2010) Prudential Assurance Company Limited, Hong Kong Branch ("Prudential Hong Kong") announces its sponsorship of Plan International Hong Kong's ("Plan International") "Gifts of Hope" Charity Programme. The sponsorship aims to raise funds to support children living in deprived communities in Mainland China. Prudential Hong Kong generously supplemented donations made by its employees and financial consultants, which resulted in a total donation of more than HK$307,000 to Plan International.

In addition to the fundraising, Prudential Hong Kong also organised a "Prudential Gifts of Hope Charity Fun Day" jointly with Hong Kong Football Club (HKFC) at the HKFC stadium on 18 December, with the aim to help raise additional funds for Plan International and share the joy of Christmas with children in Hong Kong.

Mr Derek Yung, Chief Executive Officer of Prudential Hong Kong, said "We are delighted to offer our support to Plan International's "Gifts of Hope" China Project. This is truly a worthy project and we are very pleased to participate."

Around 2,500 children suffering from malnutrition in some of the poorest communities in China will benefit from Prudential Hong Kong's donation. Additionally, Plan International will also provide books to children and teachers to promote the concept of food nutrition and health. The funds will also sponsor new school kitchen facilities and better hygiene conditions.

Mr. Yung further added, "The 'Prudential Gifts of Hope Charity Fun Day' has allowed us to invite children to enjoy a great fun day of sports, arts, and crafts, whilst also helping underprivileged children in Mainland China. We hope the success and energy of this event will help to raise public awareness for underprivileged children, and recognise the great work Plan International has been doing in China."

James Murray, Chief Executive Officer of Plan International commented, "Prudential employees have been supporting Plan International's work in Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines and Indonesia for many years, and this year are partnering for the first time with Plan International in Hong Kong. We are delighted that we have been selected as Prudential Hong Kong's beneficiary charity. "
